William R. "Bill" Schurtz, 81, of New Palestine, IN passed away on July 1, 2020. Bill was born November 21, 1938 in Toledo, OH to William Schurtz and Henrietta (Schurtz) Foster. After serving 25 years of active duty service, Bill retired from the US Army. He was an electronics engineer during his military service and continued to work in that field as a lifelong career. Bill was an active veteran involved with the DAV, American Legion, VFW, and marched in many Veteran's Day parades. He was recently recognized and honored by receiving a Cold War Service Medal. Traveling, being outdoors, fishing, gardening, volksmarching, and building models were a few of Bill's favorite pastimes. He also loved his church and his church family.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife of 30 years, Elizabeth (Grey-Beal) Schurtz, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by both parents and his brothers, Chuck and Stanley. He is survived by his four children, all residents of Indiana, William W. (Stacy) Schurtz of Indianapolis, Mary (Tim) Seabolt of Saint Paul, Christopher (Amy) Schurtz of Columbus, and Terrance (Cindy) Schurtz of Indianapolis; thirteen grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on Wednesday July 15, 2020, at the Zion Lutheran Church, 6513 W. 300 S., New Palestine, IN 46163. Gathering time from 10:00 - 11:00 am, service begins at 11:00. Military Funeral Honors immediately following at the church cemetery. Officiating will be Pastor Jason Taylor.
