Wayne Arthur Young, of South Bend, Indiana was born on July 19, 1947 to Daniel Young and Marilyn (Pyke) Young. After Marilyn’s passing, Wayne was raised by Irene (Thompson) Young. As a child he was definitely a handful and things never changed. He lived his life on his own terms and made no apologies for it. He was a complicated and misunderstood man but those of us who knew and loved him wouldn’t have wanted it any other way.
Wayne had no children by blood but he was a father figure to many. The people who were lucky enough to have him in their lives as children are now better men and woman because of it. There was nothing he wouldn’t do for them. His joy came from being able to help his family and friends in any way he could, at the moment they needed him. All knew they could count on him for anything, at any time. He thrived in life when he was surrounded by his love, friends, family, and motorcycles…oh and Pepsi.
Just like the rest of us, he made mistakes and wasn’t liked by everyone but in his last years, he reflected a lot about the decisions he made and hoped for forgiveness when needed and grace when warranted.
In 2016, his life changed dramatically with the passing of his wife, Catherine Rose (Webb) Young. For 49 years of marriage they worked, lived, rode and loved together. Like any long-standing relationship they had their ups and downs but they always found a way to show us what true love really means. Wayne was never the same without her and missed her every day. In typical Wayne fashion, he lived and died on his own terms. On his last day on this earth, he waited for her remains to arrive to his room and once he was told she was there, he took his very last breath. Even in death, he waited for her. On May 19, 2020, they were finally reunited and rode off together again.
Wayne did not want a funeral or memorial service. He wanted the love and companionship of the family and friends that will miss him so very much.
