Robert P. Kirsch, of Indianapolis, Indiana, lovingly known by his family and friends as “Bob” passed away on August 29th, 2022 at the age of 73.
Bob was born on June 5, 1949 in Beech Grove, Indiana to Paul J. and Regina J. Kirsch. He attended St. Joan of Arc Catholic School and Cathedral High School where he excelled on the football field. He then went to Butler University and Indiana University where he received a Bachelor Degree of Science and a Master Degree of Science both in Education. Upon graduation, Bob was a Probation Officer for the Marion County Courts. While a probation officer he was selected to attend a summer program at Rutgers University where he received certification as a therapist specializing in alcohol and substance abuse. This was one of the first programs in the country offering such certification. Following his job as a probation officer, Bob then worked at the Indiana Boys School where he was the Addictions Program Director. In 1981 he became Director of the Health and Counseling Center at Butler University. While at Butler he founded the BAACHUS program which focused on responsible drinking in college. Bob received national attention for this groups’ excellence, along with three national awards for same. While at Butler he also served as the Assistant Dean of Students for two years.
In 1989 Bob went to St. Vincent Hospital where he served as Director of Nursing Education. He also worked at the St. Vincent Stress Center, and as the Director of Behavioral Health in Anderson, Indiana. Throughout his career he also provided private counseling to individuals and couples.
Bob enjoyed coaching youth basketball for CYO and other church leagues, always with his best friend, Mike Siler. He was known by many as the proprietor of “Bob’s Bar” established in 2000 as a “not-for-profit” bar located in his basement. A huge fan of Indiana sports teams, Bob hosted all the Notre Dame and Indianapolis Colts football games here.
Bob had a tremendous and positive impact in the lives of the people around him for 73 years. His unmistakable laugh brought joy to those who were fortunate enough to spend time with him.
Bob is survived by his wife of 50 years, Priscilla; his sons, Brendan (Lisa), and Ryan; his grandchildren, Gracie, Flynn, Olivia, Lily, Kelly and Allie; his brother Jim (Jan); his best friends of almost 60 years, Mike and Anita Siler.
Family and friends will be invited to celebrate Bob’s life.
