Mildred I. Welcher, 79, Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on December 29, 2022 in Indianapolis, Indiana. She was born on July,18,1943 in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Survivors include sons, Frank and William Fields; daughter, Donna (Skip) Childress; 4 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 1 great great grandchild. A special mention goes to her "Black Son" Pete and her niece Vicky Mullin who was like a sister to her.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Lois Bechert; brothers John (Betty) Bechert, George (Doris) Bechert, Robert (Jean) Bechert and William Reed; sisters Mary (Robert) Bechtold; Barbara (Mark) Kocker; Virginia (Bernard) Mullin and Doris (Chuck) Koehl and her daughter, Kimberly Ann Mayes.
Mildred retired from IPS. Mildred loved gardening and flowers of all kinds. She enjoyed playing Euchre as well. She was known for ( and loved ) feeding the neighborhood!
When she was asked by anyone "How do you feel? " She would respond with "With my fingers"
Mildred would have personally recommended Reed's Flower Shop located at 5701 Kentucky Ave, Indianapolis, IN 46221. This was her favorite flower shop.
Millie worked with Indiana Professional Standards Board for several years. She was proud of her efforts in assuring that teachers in Indiana were qualified to be in their positions. Millie went to work with Indianapolis Public Schools, were she again assisted untold amount of teachers in their quest of helping students within the city that she lived in her whole life.
It truely was her passion before she had to retire.
Service will be Saturday, January 14th, 2023 at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Royster-Askin-Sandrock Chapel, 2310 W Washington Street, Indianapolis, IN 46222 at 1:00pm with Visitation from 11:00am until the time of service at the mortuary. Pastor Danny Thomas will be Officiating the service.
