Margaret VonHoven Obituary

Margaret Francis VonHoven, 92 of Indianapolis passed away peacefully on Thursday, February 20, 2020. Born in Shreveport, Louisiana on September 10, 1927 to Isla and Howard Crossan. She met her husband Walter while attending St. Charles Avenue Presbyterian Church in New Orleans, they were married for 59 years before his passing. Retiring as a District Manager for Carter’s Outlet in 1989, they decided to move to Indianapolis to be closer to their four children and grandchildren.

Throughout her life, Margaret was very active at John Knox Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed spending time with the ladies of the Church, knitting prayer shawls for those in need, Bible study and prime timers. Margaret loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was affectionately known as, “Mimi”. She liked to pass her time knitting blankets, reading, watching the game show channel, playing Sequence with the family and writing cards or letters to dear friends and family members. Her love for her family and God, her wisdom and witty sense of humor will be dearly missed by many.

Left to cherish her memory are her children, Nora J. (Michael) Lee, Gretchen V. Liechty, Charlotte H. Leis and W. Eric (Angela) VonHoven; her grandchildren, Sean Liechty, Kristen
(Karl) Bedwell, Heather (Brian) Goers, Kyle (Cheryl) Leis, Ryan (Erica) Lee, Kacie (Colin) Kirby, and Patrick Graue; her 10 great-grandchildren; her nephew, John Deris; and niece Kathy Andre. Margaret was preceded in death by her husband Walter P. VonHoven, Jr. and her son-in-law, Kurt Leis.

All are welcome to attend a Memorial Service for Margaret on Friday, March 6th, 2020 at John Knox Presbyterian Church at 5 PM with dinner following. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Margaret’s memory to John Knox Presbyterian Church, 3000 N. High School Rd., Indianapolis, IN 46224.
