Louise M. (Waite) Markel

Louise M. Markel, 75, Avon, IN passed away November 22, 2022 in Avon, IN. She was born on April 10, 1947 in Oshkosh, WI.

Survivors include sons, Jeffrey (Amy) Wonser, Bradford A. Markel; stepson, Matthew (Sarah) Markel, stepdaughter, Deborah Markel; sister, Ellen (Scott) Franzen; brothers, E. Robert Waite, Martin (Barb) Waite; cousins, Luther and Lautenschlager.

Preceded in death by parents, Earl and Margaret Waite; husband William Markel; sister, Virginia Waite; sister-in-law, Barbara Waite.

 Louise was retired and the past President/CEO of the Community Foundation of Madison and Jefferson County (IN). She loved gardening, cooking, reading, family,and giving to charity. Louise's happiest days were spent working for the Community Foundation.  She made huge strides in improving Southeastern Indiana communities and became a "go-to" for contributions from not just large organizations such as the Lilly Endowment, but from private individuals as well. She cared for her family beyond description, and she will be very much missed.  

A Celebration of her life will take place at Morgan and Nay Funeral Home, 325 Demaree Dr. Madison, IN 47250 on Monday, December 5 at 4:00 PM with a reception to follow until 7:00 PM.
