JohnMichael Wallen Obituary

Sergeant JohnMichael Joseph Wallen, 22, was born in Indianapolis, IN on February 23, 1998. He passed away February 22, 2021 at Fort Carson in Colorado.

JohnMichael graduated from New Palestine High School in 2016. He played on the 2014 Dragon’s state championship football team and the 2015 state runner up football team, known for his “Infectious personality, constant positivity and great work ethic,” Coach Ralph. JohnMichael was always a hard worker. Starting work at the age of 14, he worked multiple jobs, most notably at Discount Tire. He never shied away from difficult tasks, continually striving to improve.

He excelled in ROTC at Warren Central High School, therefore creating little surprise when he later enlisted in the US Army in 2017. He graduated from basic training at Fort Jackson in September followed by AIT training at Fort Lee in December. He moved to Fort Carson immediately following, where his MOS was 92 Fox. He was a Sergeant in the Echo Company, 3rd Assault Helicopter Battalion, 4th Combat Aviation Brigade located in Fort Carson, Colorado. During his US Army career, he served 9 months in Germany in support of Atlantic Resolve. While in the Army, he completed tasks with excellence and enthusiasm.

JohnMichael was enrolled in college, studying foreign language and science, desiring to further his career plan. He had a great passion for God’s creation and spent much of his free time hiking the beautiful mountains of Colorado. He enjoyed studying the Bible, spirited discussions of theology, gaming, and learning German.

He always participated in youth activities at the churches he attended. He had been a youth leader at his current church in Colorado, Church for All Nations. He had a reputation for being a positive influence for the students as well as seeking out those who were hurting. Encouraging others was important to him.

JohnMichael is survived by his parents Michael & Lisa Wallen; his sister Maryn Wallen; his three brothers Joshua Wallen, Brandon Wallen, and Jordon Wallen; his grandparents Arnold & Jo Ann Wallen, Judy Riley, Ronald & Deidre Westrate; his great-grandmother Trudy Riley; his uncle and aunt Josh & Debi Westrate; cousins Ethan Westrate, Addison Westrate,
and Lily Westrate as well as great aunts, uncles, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his grandmother Donna Westrate and his grandfather Paul Kelly.
