Susan Jane Brower

Susan Jane Brower of Greenfield, Indiana passed away in Indianapolis, Indiana on July 7, 2026 at the age of 79. Born on April 10, 1947 in Indianapolis, Indiana to John and Marie Burkhart, Susan was a devoted daughter, wife, mother and grandmother. She will be remembered for the impact she made on those who knew her and the memories she leaves behind.

Susan is survived by her sons, Jason Brower, Steve Brower and daughter Janet Curtis. She will also be missed by three grandchildren.

She is preceded in death by her husband Frederick Brower, daughter Lorelei Brower, parents John & Marie Burkhart, brother Jerry Burkhart and grandparents Norman & Hattie Couch. Susan graduated from Hancock Central High School in 1965, completed her Bachelor of Science in Education in 1970, and finished her Master of Art in Music in 1976. After Susan graduated from Ball State University with a Masters Degree, she found a vibrant 28 year career as the Music Teacher at Heather Hills Elementary School. Susan was loved and adored by all. She deeply cared for others and had a passion to celebrate life through music. As an Elementary School Teacher, she inspired countless children to learn musical instruments and showcase their talents at school performances.

Susan was an adventurer throughout her life. She toured through Europe singing in a choir in her younger days. She traveled the world with her best friend Marcia to places like Ireland, Hawaii, Caribbean, Michigan, Las Vegas and the Biltmore. Every Thanksgiving, she flew to Texas to visit her son Jason and experienced Texas barbeques, cowboys and longhorns, and shopping at Grapevine.

Susan had a golden heart. She always sent birthday and holiday cards to family and friends. Her warm-hearted endeavors to others and kind smile will be missed. In addition to her love for others, she also enjoyed being a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

A Celebration of Life Memorial officiated by Pastor Rich Bailey will take place at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, July 15, 2026 at Curry's Chapel, 3488 N 375 E, Greenfield, Indiana, 46140. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Curry's Chapel.
