Samuel Peter "Sam" Lutey, 74, Indianapolis, passed peacefully from this life in the presence of family on Friday, June 15, 2012. He was born in 1937 in Lansing, Michigan to George and Doris (Helgemo) Lutey. Sam was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years Mary (Sperling) Lutey; loving father to his sons Mark (Patty) Lutey and Brian (Cheryl) Lutey; daughters Paula (Andrew) Mat and Karen (Erin) Sparks; and proud grandfather of his grandchildren Joe Lutey; Samantha, Alyson, and Breanne Mat; and Aidan, Maura, Zane, and Lucan Sparks. While his memory will remain with us forever, his daily presence in our lives will be truly missed. He also leaves behind his brothers, David (Carol) and Chris (Roxanne) Lutey, as well as many other beloved family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and many other special family members including his uncle (Chet Helgemo) and aunt (Hazel Helgemo).
Sam’s gregarious personality, sense of humor, and warm heart left a lasting impression on those whose lives he touched over the years. He was an independent minded individual who loved the great outdoors (especially fishing, camping, and hunting); spending time with family and friends; continuing to expand his knowledge on a variety of subjects; and reading. He enjoyed an expansive and diverse career which included five years in the U.S. Navy as a medical technician, various clinical positions at Bethesda Naval Hospital, technical sales for Fisher Scientific, Director of Technical Services for American Monitor, real estate sales, and as a phlebotomist.
The family will be hosting a celebration of Sam’s life on Saturday June 30 th , from 12pm to 3:30pm, at The German-American Klub, 8602 S. Meridian Street Indianapolis.
