Richard Waltz

November 26, 1946 — November 22, 2025

Richard Alan Waltz, passed away on November 22, 2025 in Lancaster, SC. He was born in Indianapolis, IN on November 26, 1946 to Oscar Waltz and Beulah Waltz. Richard leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and service.

A proud veteran, Richard honorably served in both the United States Navy and United States Air Force, spending time stationed in Hawaii and Japan during the Vietnam War. His dedication continued long after his military service; during his retirement, he volunteered extensively with the American Legion and played a key role in the groundbreaking of the Southern Hancock Veterans Memorial, honoring those who served.

After completing his military service, Richard began a 30-year career at Indiana Bell/Ameritech. It was there that he met his wife, Almeda (Fish) Waltz, with whom he shared 38 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they built a beautiful life in New Palestine, IN raising two children, Brandon and Lindsey, and sharing countless memories through travel and family outings.

Richard was a man of many passions. He loved golf, reading, and never missed his daily crossword puzzle in the newspaper. His love for jazz music, baseball, and classic cars, especially his cherished 1963 Chevy Impala, reflected his appreciation for life’s simple pleasures.

Known for his outgoing personality and sharp sense of humor, Richard had a gift for making connections wherever he went. Whether on vacation or at home, he always seemed to know someone, and if he didn’t, he’d make a new friend. His laughter and quick wit brought joy to every room. He embraced adventure, whether riding roller coasters or parasailing with Lindsey, coaching Brandon’s little league and baseball teams throughout the years, or sharing mischievous moments like ding-dong-ditching homes in Italy with the shuttle driver. Richard lived life fully, creating memories that will be treasured forever.

Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Almeda Waltz (Lancaster, SC), his children, Brandon Waltz (Charlotte, NC) and Lindsey Waltz (Dallas, TX). He was preceded in death by his father, Oscar Waltz, and his mother, Beulah Waltz Summers. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
