Orville H. Copsey Jr., 88, of Indianapolis, Indiana passed away on Tuesday, August 4, 2020. Orville was born Hartford City, Indiana on October 8, 1931 to the late Mary B. (Harrold) and Orville H. Copsey Sr.. In the third grade, Orville met the love of his life Carrie Ann (Johnson) Copsey. They were married on February 10, 1957; Carrie preceded his death on March 3, 2020. After serving as an Army medic, Orville attended Indiana University where he earned a degree in social work followed by a law degree from Chicago Kent Law School. He spent his 40 year career handling insurance claims at CNA Financial in Indianapolis, Indiana. For nearly twenty years, he went into the legal aid office four days a week where he focused on housing issues in the community; and eventually, was dubbed “St. Orville” by the courts. His mission was to help people stay in their homes, but for those who could not stay, he found adequate homes for them to reside. He retired from the Legal Aid Society in 2016 - the Orville H. Copsey Safe Housing Initiative was created by the ILAS in honor of his legacy.
