Mary Pittman

Today we gather to honor and celebrate the life of Mary Kay Pittman of Indianapolis, Indiana, a beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and faithful servant of God.

Mary Kay was a devoted member of Southwest Apostolic Church for over 30 years. Her faith was the foundation of her life and guided her through both joyful and difficult times. She loved the Lord with all her heart and expressed that love through her worship, her kindness, and the way she cared for others. She especially loved playing the piano and singing songs of praise, using her gifts to glorify God and encourage those around her.

Mary Kay was a homemaker who dedicated her life to caring for her family. She was blessed with four children who were the pride and joy of her life: her sons, Michael Pittman and Forrest Pittman Jr., affectionately known as Sonny, and her daughters, Gina Codalata and Hazel Pittman. She poured her love, wisdom, and strength into her family and worked tirelessly to make her home a place of comfort, love, and acceptance.

Her family continued to grow over the years, and she was blessed with eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than watching her family grow and spending time with those she loved. She cherished every opportunity to be with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, creating memories that will be treasured for generations.

Those who knew Mary Kay will remember her as a caring, loving, and funny woman. She had a wonderful sense of humor and a way of making people smile. She enjoyed life’s simple pleasures, especially spending time fishing. Whether she was casting a line into the water or sharing stories with family and friends, those moments brought her happiness and peace.

The last few years brought many challenges as Mary Kay battled dementia. During the past six months, she was no longer able to walk, and this past week she suffered a stroke and entered hospice care. Through it all, she was surrounded by the love of her family and those who cared deeply for her.

On September 12 at 11:20, Mary Kay peacefully passed from this life into the presence of the Lord. While we grieve her loss, we also find comfort in knowing that she is no longer suffering and has found eternal rest.

Today, we remember her faith, her music, her laughter, her love for fishing, and the countless ways she touched our lives. We remember the example she set as a mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, church member, and friend. Her life was a blessing, and her memory will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Though we will miss her dearly, we are grateful for the years we shared with her and the legacy she leaves behind. We take comfort in God’s promise that this is not goodbye forever, but only until we meet again.

Mary Kay, thank you for your love, your faith, your guidance, and your example. Thank you for the memories, the laughter, the songs, and the love you gave so freely. We love you, we miss you, and we will carry you in our hearts always.

Rest in peace, Grandma. Until we meet again.

Service will be Tuesday, September 22, 2026 at 12:00PM at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Royster-Askin-Sandrock, 2310 W Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46222 with visitation starting at 10:00AM until the time of service at the mortuary. Officiating the service will be Pastor James Young. Burial will be at Peavy Cemetery, Jasonville, IN.
