Marvin (Bubba) Eddie Deckard, Jr, passed away on May 17, 2026, in Greenfield, Indiana. Born on February 11, 1966, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Marvin lived a life marked by dedication, warmth, and a vibrant sense of fun that endeared him to many.
Marvin's educational journey took him through School 81, Holy Cross, and Arsenal Tech High School, where he laid the foundation for a life characterized by hard work. His career was diverse, spanning nearly a decade at the Indianapolis Kroger Bakery, two decades with the City of Indianapolis, some time at Ertel Manufacturing, service at KFC on 10th Street, and earlier days ensuring safety as a lifeguard at Brookside. Each role reflected his unwavering work ethic and his commitment to serving others.
Known affectionately as "Bubba," Marvin was truly well loved — a fun and engaging individual whose presence brightened those around him. His personality was a beacon of joy and kindness, leaving an indelible mark on all who had the privilege of knowing him.
Marvin is survived by his beloved companion, Gretta Deckard; his children Joe Deckard, Heather Deckard, and Amber Deckard; and his sister Nettie Hinton and sister Nancy Ferguson, alongside his brother-in-law Paul Ferguson. He was a proud grandfather to Christian, Kamryn, Brandi, Mya, Layla, Jaelyn, Zoey, and Lucy, who brought immense joy into his life. Marvin also leaves behind his uncles Ron Key and Stephen Jones, and a wide circle of friends, cousins, nieces, and nephews who all carry his memory in their hearts.
He was preceded in death by his father, Marvin Eddie Deckard, Sr; his mother, Roberta Marie Jones Deckard; and his grandparents Nancy & Robert Jones and Nettie Carter & Eddie Deckard.
Marvin Eddie Deckard, Jr.’s life was a testament to the values of love, dedication, and community. His memory will remain a source of comfort and inspiration to all who knew him, embodying the spirit of a man who lived fully and loved deeply.
A Celebration of Life to honor Marvin will be held at a later time.
