Marcia Jane Scholl Mccombs

Marcia Jane Scholl McCombs, 88, passed away at her Connersville residence Friday night, January 14, 2011. Marcia was born February 16, 1922 in Everton, Jackson Twp, Fayette County, IN., a daughter of John Benjamin and Sarah JosephineGoble Scholl. Her earthly pilgrimage was eighty-eight years, ten months and twenty-eight days. After graduating from Everton High School in 1939 she entered Purdue University, graduating from the School of Home Economics, in Dec 1942. She was employed at the Philadelphia Branch of the Federal Reserve Bank while her husband was stationed at the Philadelphia Navy Yard in 1943. After she and her husband returned to Fayette County after WWII, she taught Home Economics at Alquina High School, and after consolidation, the Fayette County School Corporation, retiring in 1979. She organized the first hot lunch program in Fayette County while teaching at Alquina High School. She married Clair Cecil McCombs, January 31, 1943 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Springersville, IN. Her loving husband passed away Dec. 27, 2000. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. She had high ideals, an encompassing faith in God, and freely shared her love of nutrition and food preparation with others. She was documented descendant of Emperor Charlemagne, a member of the Order of the Crown of Charlemagne, the National Society of the Magna Charta Dames, The National Society Women Descendants of the Ancient and Honorable Artillery Company of Massachusetts, The National Huguenot Society, Edward Pearson Chapter, of the National Society of Colonial Dames, Seventeenth Century; The Society of the Descendants of the Colonial Clergy, a 62 year member of John Conner Chapter, Daughters of the American Revolution; a 60 year member of Daughters of The American Colonists; Eunice Mather Williams Chapter, National Society of New England Women; National Society of the Dames of the Court of Honor; National Society of Daughters of Colonial Wars; and National Society Descendants of Early Quakers. She was a member of First Church of Christ, Scientist, Connersville, since 1954, serving in many offices. Survivors include sons, Thomas Gerald, Robert Paul, and daughter, Nancy Joan. A brother, Gerald, living in Utah and two sister-in-laws, Betty Smith Scholl, of Green Valley, AZ and Mary Scholl, of Jamul, CA., brother-in-law, Paul W. McCombs and his wife Frances of Connersville, and numerous nieces and nephews, and great nieces and nephews. She is proceeded in death by her husband of 57 years, her parents, a daughter, Ann Kathleen McCombs Rekawik, son-in-law, Richard Rekawik and a daughter, Jane Margaret McCombs and her brothers, Robert N. Scholl and George E. Scholl. A private Memorial Service will be held at the families' convenience. Her remains will be interred in the Shrine of Memories Mausoleum, Connersville, IN.
