Lucille Laverne (Lehman) Douglas

Lucille LaVerne Douglas, 76, passed away on June 23, 2025, in Greenfield, IN, with her 3 daughters by her side, holding her hands until the very end. She was preceded in death by several dear family members and survived by a wide loving circle of family and friends who will carry her memory forward!

LaVerne was born on March 9, 1949 in Cannelton, IN, to Leonard Lehman and Lizzy Lehman. She graduated high school and went on to work various jobs until she landed at Wachovia National Bank (now known as Wells Fargo) as a bank manager in 1998, where she worked for 25 years. She married James Douglas on October 9, 1982, and they had a long happy marriage, until Jim passed away in 2007. She as well has 4 children from a previous marriage, Kris Mattingly, Tom Griffith (deceased) Kelly Whitaker and Amy Griffith. She was a loving stepmother to Jim's two daughters and son from his previous marriage - Donna Barbour, Terry Thaler, and David Douglas.

LaVerne found joy in the simple and spirited moments of life-cheering for her favorite NASCAR drivers on race day, trying her luck at the casino with an ever-hopeful grin, or quietly conquering crossword puzzles with her morning coffee. An avid reader, she cherished a good story and the quiet company of a well-loved book. Having a quiet lunch with a good friend or two, was high on the list of things that made her smile. Oh and I can't forget her love of riding on the back of a Harley - she told me once after her chemo was making her slow down that the rides she received from many of her friends made her feel alive! Above all, she treasured time spent with her family and friends, who were the heart of her world. She was a member of the Women's Auxiliary for the American Legion in both Morristown and Greenfield, Indiana.

As to our mom's wishes, she did not want a funeral service or visitation. We will hold a Celebration of Life for our mom on July 12, 2025 at Bell Mortuary and Crematory, Shangrila 1444 US-52, Fountaintown, Indiana, 46130 from 2:00pm-4:00pm.
