Lisa Ames Berger, 72, passed away peacefully at her home in Indianapolis Friday, January 16, 2026.
Lisa was born in Sturgis, KY on January 17, 1953, to Eddie and Maggie Ames.
The family moved to Zionsville Indiana in 1962, and Lisa graduated from Zionsville High school in 1971.
Lisa earned degrees in nursing from Purdue University, Indiana University, and Ball State University. She was Associate Professor Emerita, School of Nursing, at University of Indianapolis where she taught from 1978 until retirement in 2015. She served many hours in the UIndy Student Health Center and was the university’s representative in Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She was a member of the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care (ANAC) from its founding in 1987.
For many years, Lisa was a nurse at Franciscan Health when not teaching. She volunteered throughout the community wherever she was needed.
Lisa loved children of all ages and was a devoted friend and family member. She also loved animals, as evidenced by the endless succession of cats and dogs she adopted.
She is preceded in death by her parents Eddie and Maggie Ames.
Lisa is survived by her husband Tom Berger, her sons Lucas Martin (Beccah), and Zachary Martin (Amber), and five grandchildren, her stepdaughters Anna and Madeline Berger, two sisters Micah Stuckey (John) and Suzanna Ames-Kendall (Scott), and her extended family of nieces, nephews, and great- nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Lisa at Zionsville Christian Church Saturday, February 7th at 330PM, to be followed by a reception in the church hall.
