Indianapolis

Judith Ann Canfield, 71, of Indianapolis IN, passed away on February 26th, 2026.

Judy was born on April 3rd, 1954 to Thomas Paul Canfield and Pauline T Canfield. Judy’s life was defined by her deep connections and loyalties to the people she loved. Her large circle of friends and family included siblings, nieces, nephews, cousins, childhood friends, employers, and people she met in her daily life. When Judy embraced someone as a friend, they had a friend forever.

Throughout her life, Judy faced many serious health issues, including two separate battles of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. She faced each crisis with bravery and strength, refusing to let cancer define her life. Despite (or likely because of) her health challenges, Judy lived life to the fullest, always seeking out new experiences and adventures. She lived in Washington, Texas, and New Mexico and traveled throughout the world, including Hong Kong, Italy, Amsterdam, and Mexico. She volunteered for a theatre company, was a devoted Big Sister, painted prolifically, and adopted and loved numerous pets throughout her life, including her last dog Honey who gave Judy endless love and companionship in the years preceding Judy’s death. Recently, Judy and Honey were a fixture on Judy’s front porch, and the pair will be remembered and missed by the community.

Though Judy was a small in stature, everything about her was big – her zest for life, her sense of humor, her ability to drink people under the table (accompanied by her signature Whoo Whee! every time she drank), and of course her love for her large circle of friends and family.

For 25 years, Judy was a dedicated and cherished employee of Bell Mortuary & Crematory.

Judy was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend. She is survived by many people who miss her deeply, including her immediate family, sisters Kay Besso and Martha Roeder and brother David Canfield, who considers Judy a mother as much as a sister.

Arrangements handled by Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Royster-Askin-Sandrock, 2310 W Washington St. Indianapolis, IN 46130.
