John O. Rogers, 89, of Greenfield, passed away on September 29, 2026, leaving behind a long life filled with hard work, family, service to his country, and a few well-loved tractors.
He was born June 8, 1937, to James Robert (Jim Bob) and Lucille (Polly) Rogers. As a young man, John proudly served overseas in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.
On June 12, 1960, he married the love of his life, Marjorie A. Claycomb, beginning a marriage that spanned decades and created a lifetime of memories.
John spent more than 30 years working at Eli Lilly in Greenfield, where he was known for his dedication and steady work ethic. When he wasn’t working, he could often be found doing the things he loved most—camping, tending to his garden, or bringing antique tractors back to life. John had a special knack for fixing things others might have given up on, especially tractors that simply needed a little patience and the right pair of hands.
In retirement, John and Marjorie enjoyed spending their winters in Florida, happily trading Indiana snow for sunshine and warm breezes. Whether in the garden, at a campsite, or enjoying a warm Florida afternoon, John was happiest when surrounded by family and the simple things he loved.
Above all, John cherished his family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Marjorie; sons John Rogers Jr. (Karrie) and Jeff Rogers (Jennifer); daughter Julie Toebbe (Mark); five grandchildren, Chelsea Webster (Brian), Kyle Rogers, Jordan Rogers Lucas (Calen), Joseph Rogers (Katie), and Jessica Rogers (Jordan Wright); and three great-grandchildren, Eddie, Ethan, and Anna Webster.
John lived a long life marked by hard work, and devotion to family.
