John "Jack" E. Monaghan

April 9, 1927 — June 19, 2011

John E. Monaghan was born to the late Edward F. and Anna M.Burke Monaghan on April 9, 1927. Jack was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy. He worked for 22 years as a fire fighter at Ft. Benjamin Harrison retiring as an Asst. Fire Chief. He was instrumental in developing the Indiana Fire Training School at Ft. Benjamin Harrison , and was past President of the International Fire Buff Association. He was a member of the American Legion Post 34 for 61 years, serving as Post Commander in 1957. Jack was happy to call Bill W. his friend for 42 years. Jack was preceded in death by his parents and a twin sister Jane Monaghan Sweeney. He survived by 6 children: Frances Monaghan RyanJerry, Catherine Monaghan Bailey, Patrick MonaghanRobin, Michael Monaghan, Timothy MonaghanJennifer, Stephen MonaghanStephanie, 11 grandchildren and numerous great grandchildren. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church or the American Legion Post 34
