Jeannette Hammans , On November 14, 2014 Jeannette Hammans passed away peacefully at Brookdale Place at Fall Creek, where she had resided in assisted living for the past six months. A Memorial service will be held on Saturday, November 22 in the McGee Chapel of Tabernacle Presbyterian Church at 4:30 p.m. preceded by visitation beginning at 2:30 p.m.
Jeannette was born on a farm in Northwest Iowa on September 12, 1912 to Charles Robert McCrory and Marie (Laurine Marie Larsen) McCrory. She lived a long a full life, having celebrated her 102nd birthday just two months before her death. She grew up in the small town of Ireton, Iowa. After high school, Jeannette knew that she wanted to be a kindergarten teacher and attended both the State University of Iowa and Iowa State Teachers College, where she received a Primary Teaching Certificate. She taught from 1933 until 1966, with only a few years interruption during WWII.
She was married to Richard Hammans from 1940 until his death in 2003. They had one daughter, Jean Marie. Jeannette lived most of her adult life in LeMars and Fort Dodge, Iowa.
Jeannette had many interests, which included playing bridge and a wide variety of arts and crafts. She was known for her culinary skills, especially her pies and was a gracious and welcoming hostess to her many friends, as well as family members. She belonged to the First Methodist Church of Fort Dodge, PEO and several bridge groups. She loved to travel and had many wonderful travel opportunities as the wife of a District Governor of Rotary. Most of all though, she was devoted to her family, who will miss her greatly.
Jeannette lived the last nine years of her life in Indianapolis with her daughter, Jean and son-in-law, George Davis. She is also survived by three grandsons. Eric (Emilie), Scott (Amy) and Mark (Jeannette) Davis; four granddaughters and four nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband; two sisters; one brother; five siblings by her father's first marriage; two nephews and her parents.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to Tabernacle Presbyterian Church.
