Hylas Douglas Groves , 83 years, Went to be with our Lord on Thursday, February 13, 2014 in Indianapolis. He was born on February 26, 1930 in Portland, TN. Hylas was the son of the late Jessie Lee Groves and Bessie Lee Sercy Groves. Hylas is survived by his loving wife Marie (Monk) Andrews Groves. They were blessed with 66 years of marriage and to this Holy Union were three children. Michael (Debra Kay) Groves, Sherry (Greg) Jacobson, Deborah (Curt) Baatz. Hylas had four brothers Wayne Groves, Indianapolis, IN, Gary Groves, Avon, IN. He was proceded in death by two brothers Herbert Groves, Tennessee, Harold Groves, Tennessee. Hylas had seven grandchildren; Wendy DeBoard, April Hughes, Johnnie Ramsey, Jennell Estes, Joe Glass, April Bertram and Shelly Groves. Also Fifteen great grandchildren and one great-great grandson.
Hylas worked 33 years for Bridge Port Brass retiring from there and then moved back to Tennessee and then he did farm work and was a heavy equipment operator. He later moved back to Indiana and went to work for the City of Indianapolis Parks Dept. He retired from the Parks Dept. after ten years of service.
Hylas loved life and most of all he loved just being a husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed by each and everyone of them.
Services will be on Monday, February 17, 2014 at 1:00pm at Bell Mortuary & Crematory, Shangrila Chapel with Pastor Danny McAdams and Pastor Ron Bowen Officiating. Visitation will be at the mortuary from 4:00pm to 8:00pm on Sunday, February 16, 2014. Burial will be at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
