Chester “Chet” Mosley, 76, of New Palestine, passed away on Friday, December 12, 2025. Chet was born on February 2, 1949, in Laurel County, Kentucky, to Loyd and Virgie (Napier) Mosley. He was a graduate of Lily High School in London, Kentucky. He and his brother, Gus, furthered their education at Somerset Vocational School, where they studied diesel mechanics.
Chet was a proud veteran who served in the United States Army from 1969 to 1971. During his service, he worked as a diesel mechanic, military police officer, and chauffeur. After his military service, Chet continued his career as a diesel mechanic and truck driver. He retired from Trans Service in 2010 and truly cherished the extra time spent with his family.
Chet’s life was guided by kindness, integrity, and a deep devotion to his family. He married the love of his life, Carol Jean, on December 12, 1975. Chet endured a two-year battle with cancer and was determined to celebrate their 50th anniversary. He passed away quietly on the morning of their anniversary, more in love with his bride than on the day they were married. There was never a meal eaten or a token of love given that he did not thank her for. Their bond was truly unbreakable.
Chet never met a stranger and loved connecting with people. He could often be found visiting garage sales, bragging about his grandkids, and looking for a good deal on a pocket knife. He was an avid gardener and loved sharing his tomatoes with neighbors and his favorite nurses. He enjoyed helping others and always seemed to have the right tool or part needed to save the day. Chet could often be found at the local coffee shop telling stories and lying to his best friend, Lou Kropp. His memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him and through the legacy he leaves behind.
Chet is survived by his loving wife, Carol Jean (Bowling) Mosley; son, Michael Shane Mosley and his companion, Michelle Spilker; daughter, Shannon Kropp, along with his favorite son-in-law, Eric Kropp. His favorite title was Proud Papaw to his eight grandchildren: Michael Mosley, Alyssa (Tucker) Swinney, Jaimee Mosley, Erin Mosley, Evan (Destiny) Kropp, Alex Kropp, Elley Kropp, and Ajay Kropp. He also had six great “grand critters” who loved to steal his famous camo hat: Ryder and Adalyn Swinney; and Ezra, Maverick, Atlas, and Arlo Kropp.
Chet was preceded in death by his parents; sisters, Carol Mosley Whitaker and Geraldine Mosley; brother, Gus Mosley; niece, Linsie Mosley; and grandson, Michael Mosley.
