Brian Matthew Herhusky passed away peacefully on November 12, 2025, after braving ALS and the toll it took on his body for a little over two and a half years. Brian was 63 years old. He was born in Patuxent River, Maryland, and raised in the Lake Tahoe area of California. He attended Tahoe Truckee High School and UCLA. At UCLA, he studied computer engineering, rowed for the crew team and played the flute in the marching band. He met his wife Denise after college while working at Oracle Corporation in the San Francisco Bay Area. They married in 1989 and lived in Palo Alto for 7 years before moving to Indiana to raise their five children. Although he moved away from Tahoe, it has always been home in his heart. His ashes will be scattered there alongside his parents, Mary Lou and Bob, and his brother Robert.
Brian was many things. He was a wonderful son, husband, father, brother, and friend. He was also an athlete, prankster, nature-lover, sky-watcher, pie guy, ideas guy, gardener, skier, tennis player, swimmer, Christian, tech guru, aviation and aerospace enthusiast, bear hug giver, AND he was so so kind and generous.
Brian was well loved and he loved well. It is so heartwarming to hear everyone’s stories of him. We have heard how big his smile was, how large his heart was, and how they will forever think of him when they see a sunset. What a legacy.
Brian leaves behind his wife Denise Herhusky, sons and daughters Allyson (Brian) Wales, Nick (Annika) Herhusky, Mason Herhusky, Lindsay (Jeremy) Herhusky-Schneider, and Brooke Herhusky; granddaughter Hannah Wales; brothers and sisters-in-law Michael and Eva Herhusky, Mark and Stacey Herhusky, Stephen and Tina Herhusky, and John Herhusky and Sompet Chanwijit; his father-in-law Ed Kingsley and brother-in-law Mark Kingsley; and many many many many more people who were near and dear to him.
A memorial service will be held for Brian at 3 p.m. November 25th at Zionsville Presbyterian Church (4775 W 116th St, Zionsville, IN 46077). The family will receive guests between 2-3 p.m. in the church before the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the ALS Association or the ALS Therapy Development Institute (TDI) in honor of Brian.
