Brenda Gail Hood, 70 years old, of Indianapolis, Indiana, passed away peacefully on July 14th, 2026. Born on May 4, 1956, in Pickens, South Carolina, Brenda was a beloved wife, sister, daughter, and aunt known for her sense of humor and her unforgettable dance moves.
She was a strong-willed, independent woman who lived life on her own terms. Never one to hold back but always spoke her mind with honesty, confidence and just the right touch of sass. She graduated from Southside High School and continued using her education as a Food Service Provider at Memorial Hospital. She loved the city of Indianapolis so much that she decided to move from South Carolina with her late husband, Terry Hood, to Indiana in 1998 and never looked back. Her sense of humor kept those around her laughing. She loved nothing more than dancing, sharing joyful moments and spending time with her family and friends. Her bold spirit, infectious laughter and unwaivering love for the loved ones she cherished will be remembered always.
Brenda is survived by her loving siblings, Donna Johnson, Tina Cureton-Peralta,Sherri Miller, Angela Mansell, Sherry Sutton, Leroy Jr. Cureton, Seena Sanders and a host of nieces and nephews all of Greenville, South Carolina as well as five sister-in-laws and two brother-in-laws.
In loving memory, she is preceded in death by her husband Terry Hood, her parents Shirley Jean Cureton & Leroy Cureton, sister Marilyn Bigby, Tracy Dillard, brother Lonnell Cureton, and four in-laws.
Her loving sisters shared a few words:Tina Cureton-Peralta: We enjoyed the time spent while she was here and will forever keep her in our hearts. Donna Johnson: You were my oldest sister and you will always be forever in my heart. You will always be missed but forever loved. Leroy Jr. Cureton: We will miss you. May God keep his loving arms around you as he receives your soul. Be blessed, Brenda. I love you always. Angela Mansell: Brenda and I would always ride the bus every two weeks to University Square when she got paid from the Greenville Hospital System, which now it's called Prisma. We would buy albums and records because we loved music. And then she bought her a new car, and you could not tell her anything. We stayed on the road just riding; that was my favorite time together with her. Sherri Miller: Brenda was the kind of person that meant what she said and didn’t play with anyone. Sherry Sutton: Brenda had a beautiful soul and I loved her. Poem presented by loving niece Marquita Cureton: Title: Missing you Always: The day God took you Home You never said I’m leaving. You never said Goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why. In life, I loved you dearly; in death, I love you still. In my heart, I hold a place that only you can fill. It broke my heart to lose you, but you did not go alone. A part of me went with you.
Memorial & Celebration of Life will be held July 26th, in South Carolina.
