Born on June 2, 1930, in Nora, Kentucky, Ray was a proud Navy Veteran who served aboard the USS Salem. His dedication to his country was matched only by his commitment to his faith and family.

He served the Lord faithfully and was an integral part of Abundant Life Church, dedicating more than 65 years to his church family and the mission of spreading goodwill and kindness within the community.
Ray was a man of many interests; he loved to mow at The Links Golf Club in New Palestine and Novelty, Inc. His passion for the outdoors was evident in his enjoyment of hunting and fishing. He loved New Palestine Softball and the color red.
Ray is survived by his loving son, Edward Ray Marcum, and his daughter-in-law, Becky Marcum. He cherished his relationship with his sister, Ruth York, and his brother, Dale Marcum. His legacy continues through his grandchildren: Alyssa Dillard, her husband Jeremy Dillard, Michelle Hokl, and her husband Jeff Hokl. Ray was a proud great-grandfather to Brayden Eugene Dillard, Bryson Ray Dillard, Camden Ray Hokl, and Charlotte Rose Hokl.
He is predeceased by his father, Tommie Marcum, his mother, Vesta Marcum, and his beloved wife of 51 years, Wanda Upchurch Marcum. Ray joins in eternal rest with his siblings: Pauline Whiles (Ernest), Lorena McFall (George), Eva Shelton (Lawrence), Edith Cross (Winfrey), Cecil Marcum, Hershel Marcum (Ethel), Faye Marcum (Joan). He is also reunited with his brother-in-law, Howard York, and his sister-in-law, Kathy Marcum.
