Joseph “Luke” Smithers, 62. Our beloved son Joseph passed away September 19, 2017  in Indiana where he lived for the past 22 years. Born in Halifax Nova Scotia July 22,1955. He was the son of Beverly A. Mason (Michael) and Alfred A. Smithers. He is survived by ex wife Laura Lynn Hendrick and children Olivia and Logan (Indiana) and son Dakota and granddaughter Bella (Halifax). Joseph is also survived by sister Sherry (Halifax) and brothers Travis (Diane) and Dwayne  aka Buzzy  (Sonya) (Halifax), cousins Brenda , Gary , Cindy Boo Boo (Halifax) along with  many Aunts, Uncles, Nieces and Nephews. We cannot forget his loved companion “Dude”, who is now with his sister Sherry .

Luke was a free spirit and had many passions but above all was a true love for his kids.

Special thanks to Dean Losh and his wife Jennifer (Indiana) who took our son into their home and made him comfortable through his last days after the hospital. Dean was like a brother to Luke.  Also, a special thanks to the staff at the hospital and all his other close friends in Indiana who stood by him. We cannot thank you enough for all your love and support.

Joey as a little boy  had a red wheel barrel that he loved. Never dreamed he would end up with a big one where he worked for 46 years in the concrete business. He became one of the best professional concrete finishers in the business in  decorative concrete, a legend in his own time. Yes, he was very artistic which showed in his work. He loved to play the drums from the age of 10 and he never stopped.  Fly fishing became a second passion of his and he use to say...mom I am going to catch that big salmon just for you which  he did many times, and lets not forget his amazing smile.

Joe read the bible every day. He loved life and loved everyone around him as he had nothing bad to say about anyone. He would give the shirt off his back. His mom was with him one day when they came upon a homeless man. Joe stopped and gave him money, at which time his mom stated….”he probably has more money than you”...He said “it doesn’t matter mom”.

Joseph had many favorite sayings especially a quote from the bible:
Philippians 4:13 “I can do all things through Christ which strengthens me”

Others such as: “Who loves you?”, “Have a blessed day”, “Right arm left foot”, “You are Bad to the Bone”

To get the attention of his dogs he had an awesome dog call “eww wit”,  the louder the better.

In the lasting words that Joseph lived by “God Bless”
