Myron D. Newland, 72, Indianapolis, IN passed away on February 10, 2024 in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on April 23, 1951 in Indianapolis, IN to the late Lawrence & Leota (Bo) Newland.
Survivors include daughter, Megan Newland; sister, Darlene Newland Brunner; brothers, Marvin & Tony (Gregorio) Newland; sister-In-law, Connie Newland; Several nieces, nephews & cousins, extended family and dear friends.
Preceded in death by parents, Lawrence & Leota (Bo) Newland, brothers, Bill, Denny & Scott; Brother- in- law, David Brunner; sister- in- laws, Susan & Patsy Newland.
Myron was a retired teacher, guidance counselor, and most of all football coach. He coached football at George Washington and Northwest High Schools.
Myron was a graduate of George Washington High School Class of 1969, Saint Joseph College Class of 1973, as well as receiving Masters Degrees from Indiana University 1977 and Butler University 1979. He has received multiple awards throughout the years including the 1969 Rowland Jones Award, 1st Team All-City & 1st Team All-State. Myron received 1971 Charles Halleck Award; 1972 Brian Piccolo Award; 1973 Most Valuable Player and All- I.C.C. Conference Team and The 1995 Indianapolis Coach of the Year. His memberships include the George Washington H.S. 50 Year Retirees Club, George Washington H.S. Alumni Association. & Saint Joseph College Alumni Association, Moose Lodge-Speedway. He loved spending time with his family and friends along with listening to his favorites blues music artists and watching different sports but especially enjoyed anything and everything Football and Auto Racing. The Month of May was his favorite, spending the entire month at the Indianapolis 500 track.
Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 18, 2024 from 1:00pm- 4:00pm at American Legion Post 64, 601 South Holt Rd, Indianapolis, IN 46241.
