Betty Ritter Obituary

Betty Ann (Spitzner) Ritter, 89, of Morristown, Indiana, passed away peacefully on March 13, 2024.
Betty Spitzner was born May 24, 1934 to Leslie and Sylvia (Howe) Spitzner in Wayne County, Illinois. She spent her early days on a farm in rural southern Illinois with her four sisters during the last years of The Great Depression.
On January 17, 1951, Betty married Ira Ritter. In 1957 with several small children in tow, the couple moved to Indiana, for Ira’s job. She worked a few odd jobs, but her favorite job was being a homemaker and raising babies. When her children began to have kids of their own, Betty’s days were filled with caring for grandkids.
Betty was a talented seamstress and baker. She enjoyed tending to her large garden in the summers, growing sweet corn and blackberries and canning tomatoes and green beans. She was an avid reader who loved history, true crime, and politics. In retirement, Betty and her husband enjoyed traveling, camping, and cheering on their grandkids from the stands at countless sporting events. In June 2014, she lost her husband of 63 years.
Betty was preceded in death by her husband Ira, her daughter Peggy Brune, son-in-law Dennis Brune, and great-granddaughter Isabella Hills. She is survived by Penny Keaton of Morristown, Tim (Sara) Ritter of Greenwood, Richard Ritter of Indianapolis, and Jeff Ritter of Indianapolis, as well as 11 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great-grandchildren.
Betty left an indelible mark on her family. There will never be monkey bread, Christmas cookies, or a pie crust as good as hers. They’ll miss her laughing-so-hard-she-cried fits and the beautiful clothes she made. Betty was smart, loving, and generous. She was a faithful follower of Jesus Christ and member of Carrollton United Methodist Church.

Memorial contributions can be made to Concord Cemetery in Morristown, Indiana.
