Richard Lee Thompson, 83, of Indianapolis, IN, passed away February 9, 2016, in Indianapolis, IN. He was born on December 17, 1932 in Edmond, Oklahoma, to Floyd Thompson and Minnie (Bare) Thompson. Richard attended Arcadia High School in Arcadia, Oklahoma, and his senior year he attended and graduated from Wilburton High School in Wilburton, Oklahoma in 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Navy from 1951-1955 during the Korean War.

Along with his father, Richard followed highway excavation from Oklahoma through many states, and settled in Indianapolis in 1962 after marrying Helen Palencer.

Richard continued to work in excavation until he was 78 years old.  Richard was a tireless worker, a proud Navy veteran, and a consummate “Okie.”  He was devoted to his family and friends.  He enjoyed dancing at the American Legion, and maintained friendships from his youth, work, and his Naval Service.  Richard maintained a weekly breakfast with friend Paul White for decades.  In addition, he enjoyed social visits with dance partners, his Navy friend Red Sons, and many others.

Richard is preceded in death by his wife Helen, his parents Floyd and Minnie Myrle, and sister Lois Gathers.

Richard is survived by his four children:  Anna Woods, Claude Thompson, Therese Keeney, and Margaret Harvey, and his five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
