Al enjoyed sports, and was a lifelong fan of the Chicago Cubs and the Chicago Bears. He played and coached basketball. He was a devout Christian, and a faithful member of the St. Stephen Eastern Orthodox Church. He served as a board member for many years, as well as church warden, and official greeter.
